Consider the following quote from e. e. cummings:
"To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else--means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight: and never stop fighting."
Reflect on this quote, both in terms of the The Giver and the real world.
Sometimes it is hard to decide to be yourself or someone else. It might seem like a good idea to copy someone else, but it is better to trust yourself. Most people have trouble trying to do that. That is why they said it is like a human fighting the hardest battle
ReplyDeleteI agree with Akshat,
ReplyDeleteI think this quote means that in a world of sameness like in the giver the real war is being different when every one wants you to be the same as them.People in our time do this to, sometimes unknowingly. An example of this is a parent wanting their kid to fit in.
