The Giver (11)
Nowadays, it seems that every popular book becomes a movie. However, The Giver has not be adapted. Why do you think that might be? Do you think The Giver would make a good film? Why or why not?
I think that it would be good as a third person movie. But have a narrator so you could know what Jonas was thinking because that is apretty important part in the book
I think that the Giver was not adapted because everybody would not be able to see color and it would be hard to show that in a movie. It would also be hard to do the movie because of sameness and it would be hard to find a lot of people that look the same.
I think so because it's about the struggles of a boy when he is given past memories about the world.He could never look at things the same way.Scarlet H.
The giver is a confusing book. Why do they have a reciver? How tne heak did all these people lose there memories? this book made barily any sence. Those are my questions that are unanswered but they should be. Just about every thing in the book is a cliff hanger. thats why i think it wasnt made into a film. it had to many questions.
I agree with Scarlet H because a storyline, like the one in The Giver, has never been made into a movie before. But I also think that it would be very hard to show in a movie how the town worked without a lot of narrating. Movies with a lot of narrating are not very interesting. So I don't think The Giver would be a very good movie.
I don't think that it has been adapted because maybe Louis Lowery doesn't want to give her right to the book away. Many times they ruin the book when they make a movie and she might not want that to happen. I do think that it could be a good movie though because it make you think about how life could be very different than we know it and how lucky we are to have our freedom of choice.
I think that The Giver would be a really good movie because it could show how Jonas can "see beyond." Also it could show the memories Jonas is recieving and how his live changes to be so different from the community he lives in.
I dont think that the giver has adapted very much in the sense that some scenes would be hard to show. An example is when the giver is giving memories to Jonas. Also it would be harder to have people not seeing color. In a book, the author gives pictures in your mind for you to assume what they are. That is why I think it hasn't adapted.
Lara S. I agree with Christine and Scarlet because movies with a lot of narrating are boring. They get confusing and hard to understand. I would love to see the Giver in a move but it would just be to hard.
I think "The Giver" would not be a good movie because of the struggling memories in the book. For example: the memory of war. In that memory there was sadness all around, and I don't think that would be good to watch. Along with the painful memories, there was release, which would also be hard to bear.

I think that the Giver wouldn't make a very good movie for several reasons. How would the producers make us see a world without color, when every day, our world is completely filled with colors? They would have to make the watchers understand that in the Giver, people's everyday lives are completely without color. they live their lives in a blank world. I don't think that there is a way to portray that feeling. I just don't believe that the producers could put that feeling in a movie.
I don't think The Giver would make a very good movie because you as a reader have to make a lot of inferences about the book. The director and producers of such a movie would have to do a lot of work to get the movie to be somewhat like the book and it would still stray from the actual story line.
Kaia W. I agree with Tyana D. because I think that you would have to make up a lot of it in your mind because putting it in a movie wouldn't make sense. Also it would be confusing if you have not read the book.
I agree with Tyanna because part of the fun of reading a book like this is that you get to use your imagination. This book would not make a good movie because the director and producer would use change how you had pictured the scenes and events. In this book they never elaborate on how the dwellings look or how the town looks and that would just make the movie a whole lot harder to produce.
I agree with Suriyas reason of how it would be hard to show that there wouldn't be color in the movie and people who haven't read the book wouldn't understand.
I think it would be a good movie but I don't think a lot of people would see it. Even though this is a great and popular book but I Don't think its as good as the harry potter books. the harry potter books were great books and great movies. Don't get me wrong i love the giver, but i just think it is not good enough to be a big Hollywood movie.
I don't think this would be a good movie because you won't see color. It would appeal to me if I was a kid at the movies in the 30s, this is 2011. I would like this if they tweaked the movie so you could see color. This story also is very good but i don't want to make a movie out of it.

I disagree with Cole and Suriya, If the giver was made into a movie i would encourage the director to make it without color in the beginning and then as Jonas learns to see color then the screen would start to show color to,just like The Wizard Of OZ.
I wouldnt think it would be very easy making a movie because the people in the community dont feel anything. The world looks gray to them and they are placed in their family unit. They dont choose and the storyline is confusing. The community is used to living in a world of lies. I just dont think it would make a good movie.
I agree with Kyra, the story line would change a lot. It would be hard to show everything in the way Louis Lowery explained. Their world is so plain and colorless, except for Jonas because he can see color, and feel emotions. So that could get confusing on the big screen switching back and forth to color and black and white, but the book is mainly in Jonas perspective.
I agree with Tyana D. I don't think "The Giver" would be a very good movie. When I read "The Giver" I had to really think about what was going on and I think that anyone who watched the movie and hadn't read the book would be confused. Therefore, the movie producers would have to put a lot of thought into the movie to make it appeal to the audience and keep their interest.
I also agree with Kyra that it would be hard to make The Giver into a movie because it would be difficult to show how their world is so simple and everything is the same. I think that this would not be a very good movie because the events that the Giver lets Jonas experience are the ones that we go through everyday so it would be very normal to us.
The reason I belive the Giver was not created into a movie is because it would be hard to show sameness when it really gives no explaination in the book.I believe it would be a confusing movie because they really wouldn't understand the sameness.
i think the giver was not adapted, because it would be a black and white movie which makes the movie sorta boring. And I think that the Giver would be a great film, because there is a lot interesting things that they do, that we don't do.
I think that The Give has not been adapted yet because producers are waiting for it to get more popular and be safe with the number of people who watch the movie so they can pay fopr the makeing of the movie
I think The Giver wouldn't make a good movie because it's more a book you need to imagine to get the full effect. If they made a movie it would take all the creativity out of it. Imagining it really makes you have a connection with Jonas.
I agree with Brian C. It would be a very hard movie to watch with all the war, pain, and sadness. I don't think I would be able to watch the release. I also agree with Courtney R. It would be a very hard movie to make, and then most people who read the book probably wouldn't like the movie, because everyone has a different perception.
